PS3 Jailbreak True or Hoax?
PlayStation 3 USB Chip confirmed to be real!
“Jailbreak” is a term used when a certain device, such as the iPhone, PSP, Nintendo DS, or a game console has its system successfully hacked. When a device is said to be “jailbroken” it means that you can run homebrewed or foreign programs in your device where in normal cases it could not. Jailbreak is also synonymous to being able to run pirated games and applications in your device.
Among the jailbreaking that’s been going on, PS3 has been a console to be reckoned with by hackers. In its almost four years of existence, there has been much difficulty in jailbreaking this game console system. A number of manufacturers have come out with fraudulent news that they’ve figured out the PS3 Jailbreak and have come up with a PS3 modchip which they sell online for a hefty price.

Many have been duped by this fake PS3 modchips in hopes that they could find a way to play games that are pirated. Nevertheless, it was in late January 2010 that George Hotz, the same guy who was able to jailbreak iPhone 2G, have finally jailbreaked the PS3. During that time he was already cleaning up the software and figuring out how to imbed it in a modchip.
So is it true? Yes. A little investigating in YouTube showed several posts featuring a working PS3 modchip. Online forums with discussions dated this August have also confirmed and pointed to websites with proof that their modchips are working 100%. However, if you are planning to buy a PS3 modchip, be sure you’re getting the real thing because there are still some bogus manufacturers out there trying to steal your money. Also, perhaps it is also best to wait a couple of months for upgraded versions with lesser bugs and a faster interface.
